The net is flooded with apps - for smartphones and tablets. But web sites are still better viewed on a computer, right? So the marketing department is happy and web design is business as usual. Maybe because apps and web sites are considered as two different things, rather than two versions of the same.

Xierpa CMS for Nomadeditions

Nomadeditions (New York) is publishing their weekly web based magazines that runs the same way on computer, mobiles, ipad and so on – all from the same files. The actual viewing is based on the javascript library Treesaver. But beneath this runs the publishing environment XierpaLib, that works both as an editorial CMS and a rendering machine for images, xml/html, and other resources, that treesaver needs. Since the summer 2010 xierpa.com has developed a new desktop like version, that is just implemented.

Your website is (almost) an app

I must admit, it’s (still) cool to have my icon right there on the iPad screen. As an app, yes, but a website can also do the trick. And website based app may sometimes even be a better solution than a native app.
